Viable Options

I currently have no idea what I want to do with my life. I am 22, about to graduate with a degrees that is uninspiring to me and I have no idea what I am going to do.

I could go to law school. I could go to business school. I could become a teacher. I could live at home and annoy my parents. I could get married.

They are all viable options but what one do I want? What will make me feel fulfilled? I am capable of all of if, however what do I want?

I want someone to tell me what to do.

My degree is in chemical engineering which I could find a job in however I’m not sure if that is really the path I want to go. My true passion is in helping people and psychology.

      1. Psychology is an incredible field, would you ever consider becoming a psychologist? My advice would be not to rush in going back to school just yet. It’s an expensive endeavor to just jump right into another program. I feel like real life work experience helped me figure out what I really want to do with my life.

I agree! The plan is to find a job for right now when I graduate and spend some time maybe figuring out what my next steps will be! Thanks for the advice!

  1. Do you really want someone to tell you what to do? Someone to tell you to become a hoarder, stay at home and eat meat? LOL Be careful what you wish for!!! It is easy to see you are making some intriguing choices already! Put your question ie Should I become a lawyer before the IChing ~ the book of changes ~ and see what portends, and then place the next question teacher, marriage, business etc etc before the IChing, it will be interesting to see what you make of it indeed. However if you do not speak Chinese, consult two or three translations to help understand the commentary if you are a beginner Best of luck!!! Your epic post reminds me of the poem “The Road Not Taken” By Robert Frost

Thank you so much for the post! You’re very right that I am thankful to be able to make my own choices. I will figure it out, sometimes I’m just worried about making the wrong choice and having regrets.

I’m really not sure, I’m hoping that I can figure it out but I’m very passionate about helping people and that what has me leaning toward teaching.

  2. I am always going to say to pray for guidance. And listen to your heart. If you love to help people, start helping people in all the ways that make your heart happy! Even if you may have to spend some time doing work you aren’t highly passionate about, don’t lose sight of your passion. I didn’t. After 10 years my job description got changed to include what I love to do! Just don’t stop doing what you love, focus on what is good and wonderful in your life, and if you believe: Pray!
